Amanda studied as a post-graduate at the Birmingham Conservatoire with John Davies (clarinet), Alan Davis (recorder) and Beryl Chempin (piano). During her teaching career she has been involved in music education at all levels, working as a peripatetic teacher in primary and secondary schools as well as for music services. In 1988 she developed a pioneering programme of music classes for toddlers and pre-school children. Amanda runs a flourishing private teaching practice and offers regular or one off consultation lessons for students of all ages and abilities. She is an Incorporated Society of Musicians Registered Private Teacher, which means that her qualifications and references have been verified and that she has an enhanced CRB disclosure. Amanda is a Teacher-Assessor for ABRSM Music Medals and also has CPAT accreditation for instrumental teaching in Kent schools. Committed to continuing professional development, she regularly attends conferences, talks and courses organised by organisations such as the ISM, ABRSM, KCC and Trinity College London.
Amanda offers tuition in clarinet, recorder and theory to diploma level and in piano to grade 8. She also runs Associated Board Grade 5 theory 'crash' courses which have achieved a 100% pass rate over the last 25 years. Get in touch for information about the next available course.
Amanda recommends an initial free consultation lesson to discuss individual musical aspirations and how she can work with the student to achieve these. Students may wish to play purely for pleasure, prepare for a music scholarship or audition, to study for ABRSM/Trinity grade exams or diplomas.
Amanda is an experienced ensemble coach available for one off workshops/masterclasses or regular coaching.
She encourages her students to develop performance skills and provides opportunities to suit everyone from informal students' concerts, concerts in the local community and local and national music festivals.
A qualified classroom teacher, Amanda is able to offer primary school creative workshops designed to fit your requirements.
She has worked with a wide variety of clients to devise individual community projects delivered by experienced music educators and offers a consultancy service to advise on planning and delivering a music education or outreach programme wherever it is needed.
She is experienced in residential course pastoral care and is a Professional Licensed Chaperone for children working in entertainment.
